Meet David, Former FO Coordinator
Today we interviewed David, the previous FO Coordinator:
Hi David, people might not know this, but you recently stepped down from the FO Coordinator position. Can you tell us why? Was it just a seasonal transition?
I just thought it was time for me to step down to raise up the next generation of leaders to serve the FO department. Also, as I prepare to go out as a long-term missionary in the near future, I wanted to make sure there would be a solid and functional FO department without me being in the picture. And so far, the team is doing great without me!
What are you going to do now that you’re not serving the department?
I want to create and translate training materials needed for our body so we can effectively do ministry. I also want to spend more time developing a personal relationship with our regional leaders so that I can serve them intimately in any way I can.
If you could be doing anything RIGHT NOW (besides missions), what would you be doing, where would you be?
If you say besides missions, I would like to take my fiance, Sarah, on a nice date. We have so much on our hands that we rarely get to go on a “normal” date (without texting, Kakao-ing, emailing, and having phone calls — of course it’s all for the kingdom of God). I’d probably take her out to an Italian restaurant (she likes Italian and I like Korean), and then watch a movie. After the movie, it would be lovely to go to the bakery where I proposed and have some tiramisu and mango mousse (her favorite). Then again, Sarah would probably be too busy to even go on this date haha.

When you were a little boy, did you have a dream or goal of what you wanted to be?
(after thinking for awhile…) I always wanted to become a diplomat or an ambassador that traveled the world and spoke in different langages. But now I am traveling the world as an ambassador of the kingdom of God and the gospel!
Do you have a hidden talent?
Yes I have many hidden talents haha. I can make the exact sound of the Chinese instrument “Erhu” with my mouth. I can play any song! I did it for the full-time staff once right before a meeting and we had to cancel that meeting because everyone couldn’t stop laughing for an hour!
Looking back, what is one of the biggest things that changed about you before receiving the vision for the nations?
One thing that radically changed is the fact that my life is now full of uncertainties (yet it is so secure in the Lord). Whereas before, I made sure there were no uncertanties in my life. But when I lived that lifestyle, the work of God was nowhere to be seen in my life. My life now is basically a long FO trip where I don’t know what will happen to me the next day, but I know I am running toward the vision of God so it’s okay.
What’s your favorite verse, and why?
My favorite verse is—for sure—Matthew 24:14 because it sums up the very reason for the existence of history, present, and future. Another one would be Revelations 7:9-10 because I desire to see God glorified in all the world and receive the worship that He [and Him only] deserves.
What’s one of your weaknesses (something you absolutely can’t say no to)? Food, etc.
My biggest soft spot would be my fiance’s tears haha. When she cries, I don’t know what to do! I would do anything to make her stop crying (unless she is crying because she is in the grace of God)
What’s your plan for the next 3-5 years?
I will be married this June, and for the next 7-10 years we would like to be on the mission field wherever God calls us to preach his Gospel like there’s no tomorrow!
